Tab Title Tamer
Privacy Policy
Last updated: August 19, 2026
Tab Title Tamer is a browser extension that lets you control how your tabs are displayed: freeze tab titles, remove notification counts, set custom titles, and hold or replace tab icons, through rules you define per site.
What the extension stores
All of your configuration is stored locally in your browser using the extension storage API:
- your per-site rules (which sites to tame, custom titles, title conditions, whether to remove counts, held or custom tab icons; custom icons are kept as small local image data);
- your global preferences (default behaviors, theme);
- your Pro/trial status.
This data never leaves your device except through your own browser's sync, if you have extension sync enabled, and it is deleted when you uninstall the extension.
What the extension reads on pages
To do its job, the extension reads the title, address and icon markup of the pages you visit, entirely inside your browser, in order to apply the rules you defined. None of this is transmitted anywhere, logged, or stored beyond the rule data described above.
The one thing the extension fetches from a website
When you put a colored marker on a site's icon, the marker has to be drawn on top of that site's real icon, so the extension asks the site for the icon its own page declares, and composes the two into a single image inside your browser. That request goes to the site you are on and to nowhere else; the result is stored locally with your rule and is never uploaded.
This is deliberately fenced in: a page can only make the extension fetch a private or local network address when that address is the page's own host, so a website cannot use the extension to look at anything on your network.
Payments (Pro)
Pro licenses are sold through ExtensionPay (extensionpay.com), which manages subscriptions on top of Stripe, the payment processor. When you buy Pro or start a trial, the purchase happens on their site: your email address and payment details are given by you to them: the extension itself never sees your payment information. The extension only contacts extensionpay.com to check the license status of your account. ExtensionPay's own privacy policy applies to the data you give them: https://extensionpay.com/privacy
What I can see as the seller
Because I am the one selling the licenses, the Stripe dashboard shows me the email address attached to a purchase, together with its payment history. If you have never bought anything, I have no address for you at all.
That address is the only personal data I hold, and I use it to:
- identify a license and answer support or billing questions;
- occasionally write to you, to ask what you think of the extension, or to mention another extension I have made myself.
I never sell it, never share it with anyone, and never pass it to an advertiser or an analytics service. Every message I send says how to make them stop, and writing to [email protected] works just as well, as does asking me to delete your address entirely.
What we do NOT do
- No analytics, no telemetry, no tracking of any kind.
- No browsing history is collected.
- No data is sold or shared with third parties.
- No ads.
- No mailing list of people who have not bought anything: the extension never asks for an email address, and never sends one anywhere.
Changes
If this policy changes, the new version will be published at this same address and the date above will be updated.
